A Shot in the Arm from Dr. Ari Brown
Aug 09, 2010

By Christine Vara
Once again, Dr. Ari Brown helps clarify important information to protect us all from pertussis (also known as whooping cough).  Her recent post on WebMD provide a “shot in the arm” for us all.  She explains that even though pertussis is a vaccine preventable disease, the world of infectious diseases is very complex.   She outlines the “hurdles” we face in the fight against pertussis; yet, she gives us specific steps we can take to help contain the spread of this dangerous disease.
As a parent, I appreciate the way in which Dr. Brown provides a straight-forward, no-nonsense call to action.  She recognizes that pertussis is a major public  health issue and in order to make a difference, we must all do as she suggests – “roll up our sleeves” and get our shots!
Now, in honor of National Immunization Awareness Month, we encourage you to comment here and let us know what you are doing in the fight against pertussis.  As a suggestion, if you know anyone who is pregnant or has a young infant in the home, be sure to direct them to the Vaccinate Your Baby website and suggest they become a friend of Vaccinate Your Baby on Facebook.  By suggesting this information to all your friends and family, you can ensure they have access to up-to-date information on vaccines and vaccine preventable diseases.  Help us to protect others and the health of our children.
